One of my favorite historical places and history I enjoy reading and researching. Danvers State Hospital was built in 1874 and opened in 1878 and held over thousands of patients due to overcrowding at some point. It was built on Hathborne hill, a judge named John Hathborne who was a judge for the infamous Salem Witch trails. The architecture of the building itself was remarkable. Having such a rich Gothic build, it inspired the imaginative artists such as H.P. Lovecraft for the story of "Arkham Sanitarium" which later brought inspiration to the comic book of Batman's "Arkham Asylum" (one of my favorites) and inspired director Brad Anderson's 2001 "Session 9" movie (also one of my favorites).
